Where the Wild Things Are

Wow….where has the time gone? Here it is almost mid September and I’m still trying to figure out what happened to August. Holly and Richard were home with us this week from their vacation in Tennessee. They returned to their home in Louisiana late last night with all their fur babies. Now I have the chore of cleaning up the aftermath and putting things back into my order. I miss them already.


I wanted to share a few fun smiles from our trip to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. You remember back when families would bore their friends to a sleeping stupor of death with their home slide shows and movies of their vacation…well please bear with me in my sharing. Believe me when I say I have spared you, really…there were lots of photos taken of lots of animals.  ~Enjoy

There were a few funny looking breeds too...

and a few that didn't mind expressing themselves.

After we cooled your hot bodies *smiling* in this running pool…we decided to treat ourselves to a famous Hansen’s Sno-Bliz,  a New Orleans tradition for 71 years where people old and young stand in line for this icy treat.

Yeah it looks kinda bad…not a place I would just walk into off the street…but by word of mouth from friends and locals…you gotta go get one if you are there!

Oh yeah…didn’t I mention that we were going fishing? A fishing we did go.

One fish, two fish, red fish, no blue fish, we did catch.

Now...If stingray were good for eating we would have a freezer full. They were such a nuisance and scary too! The catching was rather slim on the red fish; out of the seven that were large enough to keep, Holly and I caught six!!

I caught the biggest two ~smiling happy evil smile! One a full 24 inches long!! Boy did he put up a good fight! Sorry guys that we out-did you!

Now back to my cleaning up and catching up with all of you!

The Royal Treatment

What do get when a friend asks you to help recover a few dining room chair seats…? She pays for your lunch at McAllister’s. OK…my Club and side of potato salad was good…

What do you get when said friend realizes it takes all day to reupholster 8 seat covers and sew two window valances…? She takes you to dinner at The Royal House in the French Quarters of New Orleans! Oh yeah!  We enjoyed Charbroiled Oysters and Eggplant Straws, Baked Seafood Tortellini, Salmon & Crab Bercy *crab sauce with whipping cream & white wine*, Salads and French Onion Soup.  Then we actually went for the desserts like wild people...thank goodness for to-go-boxes!

 What do you get after you have stuffed yourself silly with dinner and dessert?

A walk to Café Du Monde for coffee and beignets!!

Oh Yummy!

A beignet is simply a square piece of dough, fried and covered with powdered sugar.
A historical favorite in the French Quarter.

So the sore fingers from pulling upholstery fabric, using a big

staple gun and sewing were paid off with good fun and food!!

E & A are Holly and Richard’s friends from New York, who are stationed on the same base in New Orleans. Aaron is in the USCG too. Unfortunately Richard was unable to join us for dinner because he was working in Venice.

Home Is The Sweetest

Ahhh…the peace and quiet of being back home, slow and easy, a familiar calmness. No traffic, no hustle and bustle of rushed crowds, only the gentle breeze, with a teasing of fall; and the soft tranquil sounds of nature. City life is NOT for me.

Our visit in New Orleans, Louisiana to visit Holly and Richard was jam packed each day. From fishing in the Mississippi river where it meets the gulf to shopping, sewing, crafting, a trip to the zoo, helping friends, nursing a sick kitty back to health, eating…and I do mean eating some good food. Yum~

Jackie returned home to Alabama and I stayed for the remainder of the week, returning home with Holly and Richard. They are now on their way to Tennessee for their annual family hog BBQ.

The house is quiet now, with soft music, the hum of the ceiling fan, and kitties purring…yes I am pet sitting the kitties for them again *smiling in a weird way*

Parents do a lot for those children they love.

My Mama turned 75 Monday, we were back home in time to visit and give her happy wishes. I made her some note cards with my photos and she loved them! We are going out to eat again tonight to celebrate because it’s the bestie’s birthday today!! Yep she has caught up with me…she is now as old as I am! *Smiling evil smile*

A new month~September… wow…where did August go? I think we skipped from July straight to September.

Audubon Zoo

Do you ever feel like time is rushing you by? Spinning you out of control…round and round… and leaving you on the sidelines wondering what the heck just happened. I really felt like this while in NOLA. Everything is rushed and busy there.

It takes forever to go anywhere, too many people in one spot, everyone out for themselves. There needs to be more hours in the day for places like that.

I am happy to be back at my slow easy pace, my home, my space, my little world where everything in near perfect in my eyes. Now if we can just get Holly and Richard closer back to this part of the world….as for now the USCG has their own plans for them. One day…one day…one day…dreaming of one day…
