Shattered Dreams

We loved you from the very start, you stole our breath, you embraced our hopes and dreams.  You are a part of us sweet little one, and will live forever within our hearts.  Her name is Alaina Pearl.  Jesus calls her His angel.  She is also our angel, looking over us each day...Comforting her Mama and Daddy by blowing them sweet kisses each day.

Life is so precious… grab it and hold on tight, never take anyone for granted as they can be taken from you in a heartbeat.  Tell them you love them every day.
Why?  We asked that question over and over.  We still have no answer.  I feel like the harder I press for the answer the less likely it is to come. I guess time will tell, and maybe it won’t.  We struggle with the pain, the grief, the sorrow, and even anger for the unfairness of it all. I watch as my only child suffers mentally and physically…now she suffers a huge loss and has an empty spot in her big heart.  A spot that holds love for her baby and an over whelming sorrow that she is no longer here with us. I guess time and strength given through God will heal all that hurts.  But the memories never fade or go away.  Alaina came into this world quietly and left it with tiny angel wings.  She is loved.  She is precious.  She was our miracle. To love that precious little one is a love like no other.   It’s amazing how much you can love her when you never got to cuddle her in your arms, never got to look into her beautiful eyes, or see her precious smile as she giggled.
To lose someone you love is to alter your life forever…The pain weakens, there are others that come into your life, but the gap never closes…you never forget…The hole in your heart is the shape of the one you lost ~ no one else can fit in it.
Alaina sweet angel
I will visit with you in my dreams.  We will play together, read books, laugh and be silly and bake cookies.  I will love you forever and you will never be forgotten.  I will see you in heaven one day…Save a place for me.
Love, Your Grammie

Sometimes the things we cannot change…end up changing us~

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit

Being A Mama

I could have made this post about the 4 1/2 ft Timber Rattler that my hubby killed yesterday in our front yard...but I will spare you the details and the photos.
Just thinking about it gives my the hibbie jibbies again.
Or I could make it about the storms last week again by letting you know that
Jackie and his crew from Pea River Electric Co-op made their way to north Alabama today to help with rebuilding power lines and restoring power to those who have been without since last week's tornados ravaged our state.
We are slowly recovering with God's blessings and by helping each other.
But this is more like what my post should be about:
Mothers
 I’m feeling the spirit of Mother’s Day which is upon us. It is a special honor just to be called Mama, Momma, Mom, Mother…not everyone gets that miracle.  When doctor’s told me that I would never get pregnant…God gave me that special honor and privilege.  Without having had my daughter, I might not have ever been called Mama.  He trusted Holly into my care, my love, my teaching, and my nurturing...for me to raise His child.  This is probably the highest blessing He could have given me;
to feel and know a love like no other.
The love only a mother knows for a child.

Holly

I hope and pray that I did a good job as a Mother in His eyes and that He looks down on us and smiles.  I know I made mistakes, screwed up and did not make the right choices sometimes; there are times I wish I could go back and have a redo…but through it all He pulled me out of the ditch, wiped the slate clean and we started fresh from there each time.

Holly and her love for kitties....

Baby Holly

I look at Holly now, as an adult, and I see a beautiful child…I am pleased.  She makes me smile with joy.  It is my hope now that through her eyes she sees me as a good Mama, one who loves her unconditionally, one that she can be proud of, one that she respects, one that she can turn to at anytime and know that I will be there.  One that will not judge her.
She told me once that I loved her too much…
Bahahaha….how can you love someone too much?

Holly and my Mama in New Orleans

And even though my own Mama and I do not see eye to eye sometimes… I still love her too.  I know that she is there for me.  Our disagreements allow me to challenge myself, to rethink things and situations.  Our differences allow me to look at my own life and reevaluate my choices, values, and morals.  I am more like my daddy, although we have our own differences and beliefs too.  Sometimes I think that maybe I was adopted!! Haha…just kidding.  I got my talents from Daddy and my Christian values from my Mama.  So for that…I thank them and the good Lord!

Soooo cute!!

Mama

Holly gets her talents from me and her athletic abilities from her daddy.  What a mix!  A perfect one to me… *smiling*  I’m proud to be a Mama!  I’m proud to have had the chance to mother a child and in doing so I became a different person myself.  When you can give more to your child, always putting them before yourself, you begin to reconsider what is important in your life. Certain things do not matter anymore; other things get put on the back burner for later.  A child’s young years are fleeting; they escape us quickly, in the blink of our eyes. BUT…now that Holly is an adult child…I have a best friend, a buddy, and someone that can take me for what I truly am.  We understand each other; love the same things, places to go, and things to do.
And we love to have fun!
She’s a little chunk of me!
I’m a lucky blessed Mama!

Celebrating my Mama, my Mother-n-law, and being a Mama myself!
I hope and pray that Holly will have a chance to know and become a Mama herself one day...and we all know what that means...I'll be a Grammie!

Psst....I get to see Holly next week end!! YaY!

Easter Story Cookies

I set about yesterday thinking and wondering what I had to blog about….NOTHING.
I had nothing. Holly even asked me…Mama, when are you going to write another post? I told her I didn’t have anything worth writing or telling. I'm boring! Nobody cares that we worked in the yards, transplanted some daffodil bulbs, got stung by yellow jackets, saw two more snakes, cut a few limbs, rescued a turtle, watched birds build in one of our boxes, and weed eated…(now that just sounds funny –weed eated!) We worked till our backs and legs were aching. The only thing interesting was my Monday morning visitors. Slowly waltzing around in my front yard were two miniature donkeys. They were enjoying my daisies among other small tasty flowers. They belong to my neighbor who was not at home at the time. Now what was I to do? Long story short which involves them running scared from a golf cart and being a little stubborn; my neighbor finally came home, called them and they went running to her!! Now they are safe, back home…on their side of the fence! By the way…they are so stinking cute!

This morning Easter comes to mind with its special story. It is not one filled with eggs and Easter bonnets, pastel colored candies, chicks, and cute hopping bunnies.

It is one of love, forgiveness and promises. I wanted to share a special Easter Story recipe with you that I had found and saved from another blogger last year. This is not only perfect for small children to get involved in the making of but also a perfect way to share the true Easter story for anyone of any age. I can’t think of a better way to illustrate this heartfelt moment in time.

Easter Story Cookies

Ingredients/Items needed:
Bible
1 c whole pecans
1 tsp. vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch of salt
1 c granulated sugar
1 qt. or gal. size zipper bag
wooden spoon
tape

These cookies are meant to be made the night before Easter.
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Place pecans in ziploc bag and let kids beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read: John 19:1-3. Then Pilate took Jesus and had Him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head. They clothed Him in a purple robe and went up to Him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they struck Him in the face.

Let each child smell the vinegar. Add teaspoon of vinegar into the mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross He was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30...Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished." With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the fullest. "I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep."

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sins. Read Luke 23:27 A large number of people followed Him, including women who mourned and wailed for Him.

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup of sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalm 34:8--Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him - and John 3:16--"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12-15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18--"Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." And John 3:1-3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him." In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

Fold in broken nuts.
Line cookie sheet with waxed paper. Drop mixture by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.
Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matthew 27:57-60 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.

Place the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66 "Take a guard," Pilate answered. "Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how."So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting a guard.

GO TO BED. Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 "I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy." And John 16:22 "So with you~ Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy."

On Easter morning, open the oven and remove the cookies. Take a bite. Notice - the
cookies are hollow! On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matthew 28:1-9 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples:
"He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him. Now I have told you." So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them, "Greetings," He said. They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshipped Him.
Hallelujah He is risen!!

Of Love and Cookies

It is a gray, dull, dreary, rainy day…again. But the gift has been received with thanksgiving, so I’m up and at it! Going to make the best of this gift and trust that God knows what we need. I am glad to be sharing it with you. Yesterday was beautiful….we had sunshine…the first in about a week! What a way to spend a Sunday after church…I hope your day was good and that you sought Jesus in some way, if not, try it sometime…He’s a pretty cool friend to have!
So what do you do with a week of rain? Well…

Cookies were baked and decorated…pink + sparkly hearts.
Taxes forms were completed .
I watched it rain up a storm while Jackie worked through the whole night and into the next day restoring electricity.
A huge pot of chili was crocked…way too much for two people…so I shared.
Movies were watched…again~ The Last Song and Dear John, two of my favorites ~swoon~
The cookies were ate with pleasure and cold milk.
Friends were prayed for.
A seafood dinner was enjoyed at a favorite restaurant…and yes we got wet coming and going, but it was a good night to go…no waiting for a table!

Now I’m combing through my new Gooseberry cookbooks and making my grocery list for shopping. I have picked a few recipes for my upcoming review.  I’m so excited to get to do these reviews and can’t wait to share them with you. So stay tuned and be looking for the surprise that waits.

I know many of you watched the super bowl last night…I’m proud to say that my daughter Holly graduated with one of the Steelers…#69 Steven McLendon from our small town of Ozark, Alabama. He is young and didn’t get to play but it was still an honor for us. Now... about the singing of the National Anthem…hummmm…you should know the exact words before attempting to sing it live! :)
It’s the LOVE month of February and Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching us…Love is in the air. Cupid is taking flight ready to pierce you with his love stricken arrow. All through history and still today, people have been bitten by the love bug. Samson loved Delilah. Romeo loved Juliet. Brad loves Angelina. Mark Antony loved Cleopatra. Lucy loved Desi. George loved Gracie. Tristan loved Isolde. Scarlett loved Rhett. . Marc loves Jennifer. And Cora loves Jackie.

I hope you have a lovely week. Share some Love.

Pea Picking Good

Did you watch the Hallmark movie "The Lost Valentine"?  Betty White and Jennifer Love Hewitt were awesome. They drew the tears, the romance, and the love straight from the past into the present. If you missed it Sunday night be looking for the encore…it is a must see.
If this movie does not touch your heart, you are made of cold hard stone. Love at its best and I’m not speaking of Jennifer, although she was great. Sean Faris…well he added a little eye candy for every one of any age…And Betty…what can I say…she is just plain awesome in every way!

We had a beautiful weekend here in the south…temps in the seventies on Saturday…such a tease…so what did we do? Gardening. Yep…after much prep work which involved some horse poo compost, knee bending, back aching work; our end result was 80 feet of planted sweet English peas and 24 feet of sweet onions. I can’t wait to see them do their thing and reap the harvest. If you have never eaten fresh picked and shelled English peas, you are being deprived! Le Sueur has nothing on fresh!
Speaking of picking….

I have been picked! Yep me, out if thousands of bloggers in bloggerville world, to review a Gooseberry Patch cookbook. The reviews will be from their newest not-yet-released cookbooks. I get a first sneak peek at the book and get to try, play, and prepare the recipes…then I get to tell you all about it! You will be among the first to find out what’s in the book, see a prepared recipe, and find out how to get it first! So stay tuned for some fab recipes with photos, my thoughts straight from the taste buds and most of all a SPECIAL surprise. I am so excited. I have the honor and privilege of wearing this special badge on my blog...

along with having the opportunity to test out some of the recipes before the book hits the shelves!
Stay with me and be looking for my first review coming up sometime in February… There will be something in it for you!   The excitement mounts…

BTW…tomorrow begins February, the LOVE month…ready or not!
