My Some What Grown up Chistmas List

Sweet Christmas

Baby its cold outside…and we actually had a few snow flurries in south Alabama a couple of days ago.

Yes, Virginia it is beginning to look, feel, and sound a lot like Christmas. The heat pump is running and running…The halls have been decked, wrecked, and prepared. Menus have been thought out and planned. The sweets have been pondered and drooled over. A few cards were written and sent to loved ones…some of which are far far away in an unknown unfriendly place. Beds have been freshened for my little family to return home for the holidays! The stocking are hung…although they may fall if something is stuffed inside them…! The heat is running. Baby Jesus was laid in His manger. Music is being played, hummed and sang to. The chestnuts are roasted for the dressing…Cozy Christmas blankets have been strode around the room for cuddling up. Christmas movies are watched over and over and over… The holidays have been wrapped up…in pretty papers, big fluffy bows, handled with love and placed under the tree in honor of the special guest who is having a birthday…the Great I Am; the Holy One. The heat is still running… Brrrrrrr….its cold!

Now I sit and reflect how fortunate I am and think of others who are cold with no heat, hungry with no food, lonely with no love, and lost with no Jesus. My heart cries and prays for them.

I know everyone has their very own Christmas wish list…I hope you get everything you desire, deserve, and hope for and that you have a blessed, special and happy Christmas as you celebrate with your loved one. Here is my list:

My Grown Up Christmas List

…well some not so grown up…

To hear and see peace
To have Christmas here in Dixie… at Home
To see the end of all wars and fighting in our world
To feel the spirit of Christmas flow within our hearts and let it sing
To be filled…with warm and healthy thoughts
To laugh and have others laugh with me even though we may not know what we are laughing about
To see Christmas through the eyes of a child again
To feel that flutter of sheer excitement in my stomach, the one that takes my breath away

To give whole heartedly with love
To have snow on Christmas day…
To have family surround my table enjoying fellowship
To steal a kiss under some mistletoe
To sit in wonder, watch the twinkling, hear the jingle, and BELIEVE in things I cannot see.

To have my faith grow and burst wide open so that my little light might shine brighter
To have compassion for others first, to offer blessings, and give them hope and joy
To build a snowman and throw snow balls
To be able to pay the electric bill when it comes…the heat is still running
To entertain angels

To remain in awe of that miraculous birth which occurred many many years ago, in a cold stable with only the sweet animals to bare witness of its glory. To think that they knew who He was at the time…To look at the heavenly stars above and remember that first and brightest one that sent the wise ones on their way…

For everyone to know Jesus

Fall Fashion Week...

The start of this brand new week, after a very busy weekend, has been rather gloomy. It is very overcast with a good promise of some much needed rain. The leaves are doing their change for the season…beautiful golden and red outfits they adorn as they make their descent down the fashion runway to the ground to join the acorns and hickory nuts.
“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree”  Emily Bronte

Our weekend was filled with family and friends…from a huge family reunion with lots of great home cooked food, and later with a birthday celebration for my MIL who turns 87 today.
Happy Birthday Nannie!!

Our motley looking bunch....and this is not all of us either!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Another birthday was celebrated with friends as their grandson turned the BIG ONE! Such fun to see a little one tear into the cake with their little hands and wrinkle up their nose until that sweet taste passes over their tongue. They grin from ear to ear and then clap for themselves because they are so proud of what they have done! So funny!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think this will be the first time we have ever had treat-or-treaters at our house since we built it years ago. I am so excited. Our young neighbors at the end of our cul-de-sac will be celebrating their daughter’s 2nd Birthday this weekend with a Halloween themed party. They have let us know that they will be having a hay ride with all the kids on board and will be stopping at each house for tricks and treats. It is going to be fun! Lots of kids, lots of candy, lots of fun. I finished getting all the decorations in place and everything looks festive and fun, can’t wait!

I love this time of year when things are changing. The colors of autumn are beautiful and the decorations are fantastic with all their quirky, kooky~spooky, and whimsical humor and brilliant golden colors. Most of what I have up will last on into the Thanksgiving season, a few will be replaced with turkeys and pilgrims!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Side note~Holly and her MIL made it through their drive to Vegas safe and sound and she will be returning home this evening. 30 hours of driving in two days! They prevailed through heavy fog, bumper to bumper horrible traffic, high winds, and crossing the new Hoover Dam Bridge 900+ feet in the air in the dark Saturday night!
I’m sure they looked like the very modern day Thelma and Louise with a dog in the back seat as they cruised along jamming to the tunes and taking in the western scenery. Thanks to those of you who said a prayer for their safety. The sky will be full of angels this evening when Holly’s flight leaves Las Vegas headed for New Orleans where her hubby will be waiting.
"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor,
summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."
It's a Holly Day
Here is another place I wanted to share with you from my trip to Holly’s in NOLA. Franky and Johnnys in uptown New Orleans.
Now like I mentioned about Hansen’s...the place is nothing to look at…so don’t judge a restaurant by it’s cover…it’s the food that counts, right?
And yummy it was. Holly had been there with friends once before…so she knew the special treat on the menu…Fried Bell Pepper Rings!!
Oh yes ma’am they were great! A delectable appetizer dipped in a ranch sauce that was different in every way! After jumbo fried shrimp, po-boys and salads…we were stuffed with smiles on our faces. Funny thing though…is Franky spelled with a “y” or “ie”? Did you notice? Guess no one really knows!!
     ~~~~~~~~~

Today is a special day. A day to remember. A day to celebrate. It is special for Jackie and I and for our daughter, Holly. You see… 25 years ago she came into the world, given to us as a miracle gift from God.

 She was sent from heaven above as the angels sang at her arrival and as we were breathing a huge sigh of relief. Prayers rained down on us as a morning whirlwind came rushing over us with uncertainty, confusion, and fear. But with God’s mighty strength, blessings and our faith…we over came and welcomed her with joy, smiles, hugs, giggles, and the awesome wonder of such a miraculous moment!

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…"
James 1:17

    Now 25 years later we celebrate her as an adult,
     with the same sense of joy and wonder.
So HaPpY BiRtHdAy Holly and many many more!!

While she and Richard were home last week we celebrated her 25 years, with family and friends. We had a big cookout with all the trimmings, smiles, laughs, and remembering good old times together. What a blessing! Holly added Richard to our small family 3 years ago this month too!

HapPy AnNivERsaRy to you both!!

Home Is The Sweetest

Ahhh…the peace and quiet of being back home, slow and easy, a familiar calmness. No traffic, no hustle and bustle of rushed crowds, only the gentle breeze, with a teasing of fall; and the soft tranquil sounds of nature. City life is NOT for me.

New Orleans Louisiana on a beautiful clear day
Our visit in New Orleans, Louisiana to visit Holly and Richard was jam packed each day. From fishing in the Mississippi river where it meets the gulf to shopping, sewing, crafting, a trip to the zoo, helping friends, nursing a sick kitty back to health, eating…and I do mean eating some good food. Yum~

Louisiana Shrimp Boats~I love the gulf clouds
Jackie returned home to Alabama and I stayed for the remainder of the week, returning home with Holly and Richard. They are now on their way to Tennessee for their annual family hog BBQ.

The house is quiet now, with soft music, the hum of the ceiling fan, and kitties purring…yes I am pet sitting the kitties for them again *smiling in a weird way*
Parents do a lot for those children they love.

My Mama turned 75 Monday, we were back home in time to visit and give her happy wishes. I made her some note cards with my photos and she loved them! We are going out to eat again tonight to celebrate because it’s the bestie’s birthday today!! Yep she has caught up with me…she is now as old as I am! *Smiling evil smile*

A new month~September… wow…where did August go? I think we skipped from July straight to September.

Audubon Zoo
Do you ever feel like time is rushing you by? Spinning you out of control…round and round… and leaving you on the sidelines wondering what the heck just happened. I really felt like this while in NOLA. Everything is rushed and busy there.

Holly, as we go over the Crescent City Bridge, New Orleans, LA.
It takes forever to go anywhere, too many people in one spot, everyone out for themselves. There needs to be more hours in the day for places like that.

I am happy to be back at my slow easy pace, my home, my space, my little world where everything in near perfect in my eyes. Now if we can just get Holly and Richard closer back to this part of the world….as for now the USCG has their own plans for them. One day…one day…one day…dreaming of one day…

I will share more photos and stories of my trip soon.
Until then my friends, I am glad to be here…

My Poor Rich Life

On this day in the late 1900’s, umpteen years ago, I came into the world kicking and screaming, weighing in at just over 6 pounds, with a steady weigh gain ever since. The head full of black hair was soon replaced with blonde by growing out, not falling out. I looked like I had been dipped. I grew up poor *insert the sound of screeching tires here* My definition (then) of 'poor' and the reality of poor are two different things. Poor is having nothing and lacking everything. Poor by definition is~ Deprived Underprivileged Needy Disfavored Weak Inadequate Meager Inferior Mediocre.

I came to realize that I had everything I needed and wanted…and then some. Self reflection is good for shaking you into knowing the truth. Here are some truths: I was drugged as a child on a daily basis…drug to church, drug everywhere my Mama went, drug to the pea patch or corn field, and drug to the grandparents every other weekend. The grandparents live in a palace (mini country farm) where the pillows were filled with authentic down feathers (straight from the chicken’s butt) *insert sneeze here* This princess was allergic! The meats were all freshly butchered (in the country kitchen, by Grannie, including that chicken). The veggies were all natural, organic, handpicked, selected and shelled (by everyone and anyone that ate). There were acres and acres to roam and explore, from wide open fields (working fields of corn and cotton) to the lush shady woods with rippling streams (roamed by foot, no quarter horses to ride). Just up the street (dirt road) was the Methodist church, where we all attended on Sunday if we stayed over night at Grannie and Granddaddy’s. The church was old so the air conditioner (opened windows) didn’t work real well, so the fans (paper ones from the funeral home) were held and waved by hand. The singing was good and the little Sunday school room smelled of crayons. If I close my eyes I can still hear Grannie’s voice singing and smell that smell……

Growing up I only wore designer clothes, all custom made (by my Mama on her Singer ZigZag) There were three of us children, the average middle class American family…. a sister and a brother, and I was caught in the middle…The dreaded middle child...always in the middle of everything. I was always into whatever my Daddy was doing. Yep I was a TomBoy…romped and played with all the boys in the neighborhood. The TomBoy phase lasted until I discovered that boys were cute…well some of them anyway.

When I was young we had our own gym…(a gym set, swings with a sliding board), in the back yard. We also had professional driving lessons ...in the back yard too…(self taught by going round and round in a dune buggy made by my Daddy). Our swimming pool (a large foot tub and a water hose) kept us cool in the hot summers. We were scientist who invented and used our imagination to its fullest (mostly dreaming of the what ifs).

 We were doctors, poking and prodding; lawyers dictating lots of rules and defending the helpless; and we were even the occasional Indian chief who made sure the rules were followed. Barbie was my best friend and Davy Jones was my idol.
We each had a good education for as many years as we cared to pursue…our minds were expanded and talents were utilized and built upon. I could do or be anything I wanted to be. And what I wanted to be was an artist…to create, paint, draw, and photograph. What I became was a wife with a job in a bank, a Mama to Holly years later, a Baptist, and an artist too; by her own right and God given talent… talents pursued not by profession or job but by pleasure, desire, and choice.

These were all my choices. You see, life is as luxurious and rich as you believe it to be. One person’s richness is to another considered a poor life. I am blessed with the richness of a Mama and Daddy that are still living and still married to each other and to have had grandparents that I looked up to, who loved and adored us. We were taught values and morals, given responsibilities (chores) and an allowance (a very small amount of $ with certain privileges). I am blessed to have a husband, the only one I’ve ever had, a beautiful daughter, wonderful family on both sides, and lots and lots of great friends. Rich by definition is ~ Prosperous Full Plentiful Stuffed (I love that one) Valuable Sweet Fertile Productive Fruitful Strong Opulent Precious Abounding
….So you see…Rich describes my life...My life as I know and love it,
from the day I was born and born again until today…My Birthday!

I have been blessed more than I deserve. I’m thankful for actually having another birthday; for friends that share my birthday; and for all the small things today. We all have our special day…so…Happy Birthday to you too.

I made myself a Birthday Pie...a Blueberry Birthday Pie!

Janan I will share the recipe with you later...it is easy!
Happy Birthday Christina and Kim =)
After thought~ Grannie always called me on my Birthday and sang to me~

A Pickle Party…

Of Pickles and Parties

There are pickles. There are birthdays. There are parties.
There is happiness. There are friends all around. Let’s Celebrate.

Before I can go to Christina’s Birthday Party I have to finish my own little Pickle Party.

My bounty has been plentiful….overflowing in abundance.
The last batch was sweet, like my birthday friends and this batch is kosher…again just like my friends~ acceptable, genuine, authentic, true, the real thing, and sweet like sugar.

There is lots of celebrating going on here and there.

Happy Birthday Char and Christina and many other friends who celebrate in July!
Today is also my SIL's Birthday...Happy Birthday Helen!
Come celebrate with me too….next Tuesday!
We age not only in wonderful years with great memories,
but with grace, dignity, and many privileges; one of those being able to blog.
We celebrate life together. A memory made with each post. We

rejoice

have a good time

party

enjoy ourselves

commemorate

delight

My bestie always kids me that I am older than her…hahaha but she soon catches up with me in September. I say I’m six weeks wiser than her! She is pretty kosher herself.

My zinnias aged well this year and now it is time for them to
leave me some seeds for next year.

Jackie and I have been to the blueberry patch….so beautiful…big, plump and sweet, by the tons. We stopped at 10 pounds. I feel pie baking is in order…..

I hear popping in the kitchen as my jars are sealing…… I’ll be with you again soon,
until then Best Wishes and Much Happiness...

Happy Celebrating. Happy Weekend. Happy Living. Happy Day.
